What are the big ice balls discovered in Siberia?

Prepare scarves and duvets: winter at the gates could be downright cold. The meteorologists say they are watching the evolution of temperature and snow cover in the extreme north of the planet.

Among the phenomena that arouse the interest of scientists there are great extras ice balls along the coast of Siberia at the end of October (see video at end of page).

ARRIVING FROM THE SEA ... These curious formations have been found by abitanto of Nyda trip
on the beaches of the Gulf of Ob, on the Yamal Peninsula, just below the Arctic Circle. They have a diameter ranging from a few centimeters to almost a meter and appeared after a low tide.

Just this week Siberia is recording extremely low temperatures than the average for this time of year and also the snow cover is the largest since 1998.

Some meteorologists these data could indicate a weakening of the polar vortex, and consequently, more frequent incursions of cold air to North America and Western Europe. All this could result in cold temperatures and heavy snowfalls even in our latitudes.

But how do they form these ice balls?

CONNECTIONS. In order to observe the phenomenon, quite common along the coasts of the Great Lakes, you should check at the same time a series of climatic conditions rather special:
the temperature should be a little lower to zero;
the swell should be steady and
the wind must blow in different directions for long periods of time.
