The development of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and electric mobility require smart electricity distribution grids: the so-called "Smart Grid", capable of integrating traditional technologies with innovative digital solutions that, through an exchange of information more effective , will make management more flexible.
Renewable sources, in particular, with their typically intermittent and unpredictable production (wind
and sun), they need a system capable of passing from a centralized "logic" to a "distributed", and flexibly manage flows different energy to the quantity, quality, origin and programmability.
The road to the Smart Grid is still long, but the experiments and pilot projects are multiplying and Enel is recognized as a world leader in this process of renewal.
Among the Italian cities, the most important initiatives, to reduce by about 30% in CO2 emissions by 2020, they are in Genoa and Bari, while in the rest of the world, Enel is developing innovative projects in Spain, Malaga, and several cities in Latin America (such as Santiago de Chile and Bogotá).
THE QUALITY AND THE BENEFITS OF SMART GRID
WIDESPREAD. Once, there was a large center that distributed energy at all; Today many small power plants can produce electricity and enter into the system.
TWO-WAY. The network, in addition to distributing energy, is able to pick it up from thousands of small producers. Including consumers themselves, who become "prosumers".
FLEXIBLE. The network adapts to real-time demand, providing energy where it is needed and avoiding consumption peaks. Reducing waste and costs.
ECOLOGICAL. The Smart Grid combines the continuity of traditional energy saving and ecology of renewable, favoring the latter.
DIGITAL. Energy has no more secrets because it travels along with the information. Any anomalies are identified, isolated and resolved quickly, often remotely.
ECONOMIC. Also public lighting becomes intelligent: the streetlights lamps adopt high-efficiency LEDs, drastically reducing consumption.
MOBILITY. It Promotes E-mobility by installing in the city and to the home of each of charging points for electric cars, whether personal
Remote-controlled. The network is more secure, more stable, more secure, more selective and easier to control, dramatically reducing on-site labor.
