Because in the US we vote on Tuesday?

Have you ever wondered why Americans always vote in federal elections on Tuesday? According to experts there are historical reasons.

Between 1788 and 1845, each EU Member State established the election date without worrying about "synchronize" with others. The only constraint was that the votes for the election of the US President were completed in the first Wednesday in December.

In 1792 a law stipulated that voting were made in the 34 days prior to that date. A choice motivated by the fact that the company was fundamentally farm: in November harvests were finished and it was the most peaceful time for landowners and farmers. Given that only males could vote, white and landowners, was the perfect time to go to the polls.

QUIET CHAOS. But as you can imagine, a so ample time generated a lot of confusion and uncertainty of the results, especially with the advent of telegraphs and railroads that made the fastest communications.
Thus, at the dawn of 1845, Congress decided it was time to standardize a date. On Monday it was out of the question because it would have required many voters to leave home on Sunday, in a carriage, to reach the seats. And on Sunday, and his day off, they were sacred. They were not wasted either to vote or to go to the polls.

Also on Wednesday it was not right, because it was market day, and farmers would not be able to go and vote. So it was decided that Tuesday would be the day when Americans would vote in the elections.

To be precise on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Day valid for federal elections and those of the President of the United States.
